Susan Martin to Become Interim Provost

To: Knoxville-area UT Faculty and Staff
From: Interim Chancellor Jan F. Simek
Subject: Susan Martin to Become Interim Provost

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Susan Martin, currently Senior Vice
Provost at UT Knoxville, has agreed to serve a two year term as Interim
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, effective August 1.

In soliciting faculty members input across campus, Susan's name was
consistently mentioned as a top candidate. She is both experienced and
well respected, and is absolutely the right person to take on this
important role for our campus.

Susan has served the Provost's office since February 2004, and had
previously announced plans to return to the faculty in the Classics
Department. As the senior member of the Provost's staff, Susan brings
extensive experience to her new position.

Susan has been intimately involved in recent academic successes across
campus and she has a keen understanding of the needs and requirements of
the position. We all appreciate her postponing her plans to return to
the faculty to support our institution at this critical time.
