Position Announcement: Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor
The University of Tennessee invites internal candidates to apply for the position of Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor. The Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor will have primary responsibility for academic activities on the Knoxville campus and will be responsible for budget allocations and strategic initiatives for these units. Nine academic colleges on the Knoxville campus report to the Provost and he/she will work closely with these units for the planning, development, implementation, assessment and improvement of all academic programs, policies and supporting infrastructure including facilities and information technology. The Provost will have direct responsibility for the recruitment, retention, and renewal of the faculty, and will contribute to maintaining the infrastructure that assists faculty in teaching and research. In addition, the Provost will have has responsibility for the education of approximately 20,000 undergraduate students and approximately 6,000 graduate students on the Knoxville campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must possess an earned terminal degree and evidence of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement sufficient to qualify for tenure as a full professor. He/she must have progressively more responsible administrative leadership in higher education as well as a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary scholarship, and international/intercultural education.
JOB SKILLS: The successful candidate must be able to represent the University to external audiences, including government and alumni groups and to work collegially with a wide variety of constituencies. He/she must possess exceptional communication and development skills and be competent in understanding higher education issues and current leadership trends. A demonstrated commitment to promoting faculty, staff and student diversity and possess a work ethic consisting of commitment, honesty, integrity and respect for others is required.
