Riedinger to Serve as Interim Vice Chancellor
I'm pleased to announce that Lee Riedinger, physics professor and director of the UT-ORNL Bredesen Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Graduate Education, will begin serving as UT Knoxville's interim vice chancellor for research on January 1, 2012. He also will continue to direct the Bredesen Center.

Chancellor Cheek Addresses Employee Pay Raises
The Board of Trustees passed a budget that will allow the Knoxville campus to give all eligible employees a 2 percent, across-the-board raise. An additional 3 percent pool will be used to reward the campus's best performers and address internal equity issues.

Athletic Director Mike Hamilton has told me of his plans to resign, and he will formally announce his decision at a press conference to be held at 11:00 a.m. today. Mike has done a great deal for our campus and our community, and he will be missed.

Dates for UTIA Chancellor Candidate Finalists Campus Visits
As you may recall, the search committee for a new chancellor of the Institute of Agriculture has been working hard to identify candidates for this position. Airport interviews have been conducted with nine individuals from across the country, and four finalists have been selected for campus visits. The timeline has been aggressive, and, as a result, the first of the finalists will arrive for a visit today.

Five faculty members have been named Chancellor's Professors, the highest lifetime honor that can be accorded to a member of our faculty. They are Jeffrey M. Becker, Suzanne Lenhart, Lawrence Townsend, Beauvais Lyons, and William "Bill" Fox.
