Jefferson Prize
The Jefferson Prize, made possible by an anonymous donor, honors the principles of our nation’s third president. Thomas Jefferson not only was proud of having written the Declaration of Independence, but also of having founded the University of Virginia. He dedicated himself to the pursuit of freedom and knowledge.
The 2007 Jefferson Prize is awarded to Dr. Lorri M. Glover, associate professor of history, who joined the faculty in 1997. A specialist in the social history of the colonial South, she is the author of two books and one co-edited volume. Her most recent book, Southern Sons: Becoming Men in the New Nation, looks at the formation of a Southern masculine identity in the early national era. She is a distinguished and award-winning teacher, recognized with the Angie Warren Perkins Award, the David and Kathryn White Award, the Chancellor’s Citation for Excellence in Teaching, and the Cunningham Award for Outstanding Teaching in the College of Arts and Sciences.
