Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement
UT offers undergraduates the opportunity to reach beyond the classroom to pursue the excitement of original research and creative projects. Each March, the Office of Research organizes a two-day exhibition and performance event for students. The top three are recognized with Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Awards.
Andrew Wong, from the College of Arts and Sciences, is a senior in microbiology and a member of the Honors Program. Wong worked under the direction of Dr. Pamela Small on his presentation, “Phylogenetic Tree of Various Mycolactone Producing Mycobacteria.”
Mark Hawkins, from the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, is a senior majoring in retail, hospitality, and tourism management, with a focus in restaurant and food services management. Working under the direction of Dr. Rachel Chen, Hawkins and his co-participants—Laura Chapman, Steven Hahn, and Patrick Heldt—presented “The Determinants of Wine Selection: Diners’ Experiences, Market Segments, and Product Promotions.”
Tammy Cheung, from the College of Engineering, is a senior in biosystems engineering. Cheung worked with co-participants Clint Head, Curtis Million, and Adam Smith to present “University of Tennessee Quarter Scale Tractor.” The research was conducted under the direction of Dr. William Hart.
