Volunteer of the Year
The Volunteer of the Year is a rising senior recognized for strength of character and service to the University of Tennessee.
Jeffrey W. Matus, a junior in psychology and economics from Bethlehem, Pa., has tutored international students at Norwood Elementary School, volunteered for the human resources department at Fort Sanders Medical Center, coached a fifth- and sixth-grade basketball team through the Emerald Youth Foundation, participated on Alternative Spring Break, volunteered with the Red Cross to assist displaced Hurricane Katrina victims, volunteered for the YMCA and the Wesley House Community Center, served as a teacher’s assistant for students in South Africa through the Kayamandi Project, and volunteered for two weeks for people with HIV/AIDS in South Africa. On campus, he is a member of the UT lacrosse team and a leader in student government, TeamVOLS, and the Ethiopian Orphans Fundraising Committee.
