Alexander Prize
The Alexander Prize is named for former UT president and now Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander and his wife, Honey. It recognizes superior classroom teaching and distinguished scholarship.
This year the award goes to arun chatterjee, professor of civil and environmental engineering. Chatterjee joined the faculty in 1974 and since then has compiled an impressive record of teaching, scholarship and service. He is recognized by both students and faculty as an excellent teacher, proven by his consistently high scores in teaching effectiveness. Throughout his long career, he has always made teaching students a priority.
Chatterjee also has an equally impressive record as a productive researcher. Two of his papers have received national awards for their high quality. He has chaired or been a member of several committees of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Institute of Transportation Engineers, and the Transportation Research Board of the National Academy of Sciences.
