The Alexander Prize is named for former UT president and now Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander and his wife, Honey. It recognizes superior classroom teaching and distinguished scholarship.

Stan Garner
Stan Garner is
a world-class scholar and teacher. A member of the English department, he is one of the most respected instructors in the College of Arts and Sciences, consistently earning high marks on his teaching evaluations. He most recently has been a co-editor of the “Norton Anthology of Drama.” He was the principal author of the anthology’s introduction and also edited and wrote the introduction for the play “Waiting for Godot.” He is a prolific and internationally renowned scholar of drama and has published six theater reviews, 16 book reviews and 24 articles and book chapters. He also has held the Hodges Excellence in Teaching chair for a three-year term and has won numerous teaching awards.
