Angie Warren Perkins was the first dean of women at the University of Tennessee, at the turn of the 20th Century. The award named for her is presented by the Commission for Women and recognizes an outstanding faculty memeber.

Cheryl Brown Travis is a
professor of psychology and chair of the women’s studies program. Her efforts on behalf of women permeate all aspects of her professional life. She has explored issues that include equity, inclusiveness, sexuality, sexual violence and justice. Recently, she has studied race and gender disparities in health care, specifically heart bypass surgery. Her work has been widely recognized, and she has been honored as a fellow by the American Psychological Association. She has served key roles on the Commission for Women, and on the national level as president of the Society for the Psychology of Women. Her students make special note her uncanny ability to open even the most skeptical of student minds.
