Presented by the Commission for Blacks, the Gene Mitchell Gray Pioneer Award recognizes a student for proactive contributions in promoting cultural diversity.
2009 Gene Mitchell Gray Pioneer Award
QUITEKA MOTEN
Quiteka Moten is a legal studies major who demonstrates the value of cultural awareness on campus. She has served as president and vice president of the ME4UT program, chair of the SGA Diversity Affairs Committee and as a minority achievement mentor and summer counselor for UT LEAD. When the Geier Consent Decree was lifted by the courts in 2006, Moten organized a forum to inform student of issues affecting diversity enrollment at UT. More than 200 people attended and asked questions of the administration about potential impacts. Moten also volunteers her time with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and mentors high school students.
