Selection Criteria

Full-time, tenured faculty at the rank of full professor with a minimum of 5 years of service at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Chancellor’s Professors will have distinguished records of research or creative achievement as well as evidence of the highest standards in teaching and exemplary university service. Evidence of scholarly or creative distinction will be demonstrated by the following criteria: (1) a record of scholarly publications or creative activities, and (2) recognition conferred by national and international professional organizations in the form of elected office, awards, medals, invitations to hold prestigious lectureships and visiting professorships, symposia and meetings, membership in top honorary academic and professional organizations, and other indicators of distinction.

Nomination Process

Nominations come from deans, with no more than six nominations from the College of Arts and Sciences, two each from the Colleges of Business Administration; Education, Health and Human Services; and Engineering; and one each from the Colleges of Architecture and Design, Communication and Information, Law, Social Work, Nursing, and College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

The nomination package shall include the items listed below and must state explicitly how the faculty member meets criteria established for the award. Please keep the nomination confidential and, if you are consulting others, ask them to maintain strict confidentiality:

  1. Letter of nomination from dean, who may consult with department head or others
  2. CV of nominee
