An internal search to fill the new campus ombudsperson position is in progress. I want to encourage tenured faculty members to apply, with the goal of having this important position filled this spring.
Ombudspersons are designated neutral and impartial dispute resolution practitioners. Reporting directly to the chancellor, they provide confidential and informal conflict resolution assistance to UT faculty and staff consistent with state and federal laws.
Elaine Wynn, UT’s staff ombudsperson, retired at the end of December after serving nine years in the position.
Faculty ombudsperson Bill Nugent is filling both the staff and faculty roles on an interim basis as the two part-time positions are combined into this one new full-time position.
Nugent, who also serves as associate dean of research in the College of Social Work, is chairing the search committee for this new position.
Members of the committee are Benjamin Lee, associate professor of English and president of the American Association of University Professors UT chapter; Nathalie Hristov, associate professor and music librarian for tech services, University Libraries; Jill Malolepszy, assistant director, Office of Equity and Diversity; Izetta Slade, senior director, Human Resources; and John Zomchick, vice provost for faculty affairs.
