Caring for Ourselves and Each Other
Dear colleagues,
The start of a new academic year always brings a rush of excitement and anticipation. It’s also a lot of work—even when you’re not in the middle of a pandemic.
Many of us are managing the upheaval of our work alongside new routines and responsibilities at home. There is also the added weight of a national reckoning over racial injustice, which is disproportionately affecting Black colleagues and students.
It is more important than ever that we take care of ourselves and look out for one another. During my Friday live update, Paul McAnear, director of the Student Counseling Center, talked about managing stress and anxiety in unprecedented times. A number of coping and support resources are available on our coronavirus website.
I hope you will take some time each day for yourself. We cannot be of service to others if we do not care for ourselves. Thank you for all you do for our campus, our community, and our students.
