Paul Byrnes Named Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration
I am pleased to announce that Paul Byrnes, an experienced leader in higher education, will serve as the next senior vice chancellor for finance and administration beginning July 1.
Paul joins us from Emory University, where he most recently served as vice provost for academic finance. His collaborative approach and deep experience working to improve administrative structures, optimize resources, and manage budgets in an academic setting make him the ideal leader in this role.
At UT, he will oversee the Division of Finance and Administration, which includes Campus and Auxiliary Operations, Facilities Services, Finance and Administration, Human Resources, and Public Safety.
In this role, he will lead us in thoughtfully deploying resources including the budget, facilities, and operations in support of our strategic vision. He will continue our work to streamline policies and procedures to meet our goal of becoming more a more nimble and adaptable organization and continue our growing momentum.
Byrnes has spent the past 16 years of his career at Emory. In his current role as vice provost, he works with school and academic unit deans and chief business officers to improve administrative structures and resource optimization, participates in key university finance and academic committees, and assists the senior vice provost for resource planning in managing internal provost departmental budgets, the usage of endowment proceeds, and strategic plan resources.
As we make this transition, I want to express my deep gratitude to Allen Bolton for his service over the past year and a half. His steady leadership, relationship building, and thoughtful guidance have contributed to the university-wide momentum we’ve built in recent years. I hope you will join me in wishing him well in his retirement.
