A Historic Investment for UT

June 4, 2026

Dean Mangum, Chancellor Plowman, Dee Haslam, Jimmy Haslam, Randy Boyd, Amber Williams, and Brian Broyles.

We have reached new heights at the University of Tennessee, stacking successes and setting new records in recent years. This week, we celebrate another milestone in our drive toward excellence thanks to the extraordinary generosity of alumni Dee and Jimmy Haslam.

Their historic $130 million investment is the largest single contribution to date for the university and is transformational not just in its size but also in its impact.

When I shared with Dee and Jimmy our vision for elevating UT by building on our strengths in student experience, high-impact research, and top-tier athletics, they immediately saw the possibilities in our aspirations. Their generosity reflects their belief in our mission as the state’s flagship land-grant university and their confidence in our ability to reach the next level.

The investment includes funding to help cement the Haslam College of Business as one of the best business schools in the country as well as advancing student success and faculty recruitment. It will allow us to support more students and expand our top-ranked honors opportunities. Delivering an unparalleled student experience means providing holistic support through career services, academic coaching, and access to scholarships. The added investment in these initiatives directly contributes to Tennessee’s talent pipeline, helping us produce more skilled graduates more quickly.

Part of this investment will support our campus-wide faculty excellence chairs, creating more opportunities to hire and retain world-class faculty with a particular emphasis on disciplines vital to the state.

I am grateful to Dee and Jimmy for their vision and their counsel. The entire Haslam family has long been committed to giving back to Knoxville and our university. For years, they’ve stood as pillars of the community and have contributed to the growth and success of countless areas in the university and across the city.

This most recent investment speaks to Dee and Jimmy’s continued willingness to act, their devotion to meaningful change, and their faith in our trajectory. Their generosity will be felt for generations to come and will serve as inspiration to others for the limitless possibilities that come within reach when our passions find purpose.

Alumni, donors, and all our supporters are partners in our success. Like so many others, Dee and Jimmy cherish our university and the special place it holds in their lives. We are extremely fortunate that they’ve chosen to give back to us in such a profound way, just as we’re grateful for every person invested in our mission and our journey to carry UT to the next level.
