Security for Virtual Classes and Meetings

February 3, 2021

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

We have had several Zoom bombings since the start of the semester, with anonymous individuals interrupting meetings and classes by spewing racist epithets. We are working with OIT to investigate the incidents.

In the meantime, I want to remind faculty, staff, and students of the importance of securing your Zoom meetings and classes. We have resources available to help you do that.

As far as we can determine, these incidents were instigated by individuals who are not part of our campus community. Nonetheless, I want to remind everyone of the values we hold as Volunteers. At a time of heightened political tension in our country, it is more urgent than ever to have thoughtful, passionate debate both inside and outside our classrooms while still treating one another with kindness and respect.

Thank you for your hard work and your commitment to the health and well-being of our campus. I’m looking forward to a great spring semester.
