Commencement Ceremony Update
This week, we will be gathering in Neyland Stadium for a historic commencement befitting this special group of graduates. After spending the last year keeping our distance and carefully navigating all our interactions, it’s a relief and a joy to be able to celebrate together again.
With case counts dropping and vaccination rates on the rise, the Centers for Disease Control last week issued new guidance on outdoor gatherings. These relaxed guidelines give us the flexibility to create one more special memory—a moment that I hope will serve as a new Volunteer tradition.
After crossing the stage and having your photo taken, we will direct you back to your seat on the field in order to end the ceremony with the singing of our alma mater. This will be followed by a joyful rendition of “Rocky Top,” when our photography team will capture the celebration as you throw your caps in the air on the field in Neyland Stadium. You will also be able to snap pictures with those around you.
I am certain this will be a moment you will never forget.
I am looking forward to celebrating with you, your family, and your friends in the coming days. In the meantime, if you have any questions about these changes, please email chancellor@utk.edu.
Go Vols!
