UT Celebrates Athletic, Academic Successes as an ‘Everything School’

Chancellor Donde Plowman celebrates the ways the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is an “Everything School” in a June 16 guest editorial in the Knoxville News Sentinel.
With recent post-season successes for softball and baseball, UT became the first school since 1998 to participate in a New Year’s Six or BCS bowl, the men’s and women’s Sweet 16 in basketball, and the men’s and women’s College World Series all in the same academic year.
Plowman notes how Tennessee student-athletes’ are just as tenacious in the classroom, with a 3.38 GPA across all teams for the semester, the highest average in UT’s history.
She goes on to give examples of areas across campus where UT is experiencing unprecedented success. From faculty collaborations earning record-breaking research awards to students receiving prestigious awards and academic programs ranking among the best in the world, Plowman credits a culture of excellence on Rocky Top.
“We are proud of all our Volunteers and their accomplishments—in the lab and the classroom, on the field and the court,” Plowman writes. “Their dedication, talent, and grit are what make the University of Tennessee an Everything School.”
