A revered tradition, the investiture is a formal academic ceremony to introduce a new campus leader and allow the new chancellor an opportunity to publicly share his or her vision.

Chancellor Beverly J. Davenport

Beverly J. Davenport is the eighth chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

She joined the Volunteer family in early 2017 after serving as interim president and before that senior vice president and provost at the University of Cincinnati.

Prior to UC, Davenport was vice provost for faculty affairs at Purdue University and served as a divisional dean of social sciences at the University of Kansas. Her career in academia began at the University of Kentucky where she rose to the rank of associate professor and chaired the Department of Communication.

Ceremony and Celebrations

Chancellor Davenport’s investiture celebration began on October 11, 2017 with a tree planting ceremony in Circle Park. The investiture ceremony followed on October 13, 2017 in the Cox Auditorium of the Alumni Memorial Building. A public reception at the Student Union plaza concluded the event.

Warmest congratulations to you. The Volunteer family, especially we the students of the University of Tennessee, are excited and grateful to have your leadership. I was very glad to meet you on the tour of McClung Tower a few weeks ago. Your determination for the best and compassion toward our programs, faculty, and students shines through and promises a great future. Best wishes to you, and of course, go Vols!
